Superstition Mountain G&CC, Gold Canyon. Prospector Course by Jack Nicklaus and Gary Nicklaus, 1998.
Of the two courses at this club, this is the one that held a senior event and LPGA event at various times. As a result, I imagine, their web site is littered with glowing reviews from old luminaries of the game, including Ben Crenshaw praising their greens as the greatest surfaces he’s ever putted on, which seems … unlikely from someone who has two green jackets. Then again, it’s surely easier to keep these mostly flat and, frankly, boring greens running smooth than it would be if there was any contour in them.
Only three holes made much of an impression on me here and none of them in a positive way, but why bother picking on them anymore? It is a beautiful club and immaculately cared for even when the recession was hitting hard enough that they were allowing some public play.
